Jackfruit coffee beans are bright yellow, pointed at two ends, slightly like rice seeds, caffeine content 1.4 – 1.6%. Slightly acidic, mild aroma in a quite unique style.
Jackfruit coffee tree is tall, similar to jackfruit tree, from 6 to 15 m, leaves are also like big jackfruit leaves or lanceolate, leaf veins appear on the underside, large branches spread widely, looking far away is the same jackfruit tree. Good drought-tolerant plants require little irrigation water, so they are usually extensive. Jackfruit coffee usually blooms and harvests later than other coffee species due to the characteristics of rain-blooming flowers.
An adult Jackfruit coffee tree has from 30,000 to 40,000 flowers. Flowers only bloom in 3-4 days, pollination time is about 2-3 hours. Jackfruit coffee is flowering at the old location in the next crop, so in the harvest season (May – July).
Large jackfruit berries are oval, big and convex, depending on the climatic conditions of the fruit land which will ripen earlier or at the same time as the time when the tree flowers. Another characteristic of jackfruit coffee is that on one branch, there may be green berries, ripe berries, buds and flowers at the same time. The flowers of the three types of coffee usually bloom in unison, forming a white beam, fragrant aroma. This is a detrimental factor for harvesting and reduces yield. The fruits are usually harvested in the 12th lunar month, after other coffee species have been harvested. Jackfruit berries are big but have a lot of meat and small kernels.
